FAQ
1. How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal is based on the theory of selective thermolysis. The energy emitted by the laser is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, destroying the follicle without damaging the surrounding skin.
2. How successful is the process of laser hair removal?
People will achieve varying degrees of success, depending on the skin type and other factors. In most instances, multiple treatments are necessary in order to achieve permanent hair reduction. Typically, 80-90% is permanently removed.
3. How is the laser treatment performed?
Prior to the treatment, the hair will need to be be shaved close to the skin. Your laser technician will then proceed with your treatment. After the procedure, a soothing gel may be applied to the treated area.
4. How will I look and feel after treatment?
The application of laser energy to the skin results in a pink color similar to sunburn and on occasion, crusting on the area may develop, lasting a few days. Discomfort, like sunburn, may be felt over the first 24-hour period, and in some cases, Tylenol or Advil may be needed. In certain instances, especially in darker complected individuals, temporary pigmentation changes may be noted.
