Anagen is
the active phase of hair growth. This phase will last from two
to six years. While in anagen the follicle has an intact dermal
papillae located in the base of the follicle. 90% of scalp hair
is normally in the anagen phase.

Catagen is the intermediate
phase of growth, which lasts for only one to two weeks. As catagen
approaches the dermal papillae become completely separated from
the follicle.
